I'm all for fighting in hockey. It's part of the game, plain and simple and while I don't condone fighting at the youth level I'd rather see Russian and European players learn to drop the gloves than the dirty stick work they are known for. Slashing, high sticking to the face, etc. Some European players wield a stick like a sword cutting, hacking, and slashing. Injuries resulting in sticks to the face far outweigh fight injuries.

Fighting in hockey seems to be a given and that's what people go to see....at the professional level!! This was NOT that professional level. If my kid was out there, and I do have a 9 year old, and he started or jumped somebody he would no longer be playing hockey and would be lucky to see the light of day for the next month at least. I think they should sit these kids down and figure out what's going on and why that even started in the first place as well to prevent another fight. It also looked like there were three different jerseys in the picture at one point so I wonder if this was a practice of some sort?

Real hockey fans go to see the game. A fast, physical game with great passing and scoring opportunities. Hockey fans do not specifically go to see fights. Fighting is a tactical aspect of the game used to self discipline over physical play against a team's stars.

That said I completely agree with you about this incident.

Let's say you have 2 boys. One takes a cross check in the back against the boards. Wouldn't you want your other son to defend his brother by sending a message?

I would expect to brothers helping one another.

And I will amend my statement of fans going to see a fight....I personally enjoy the technical aspects of the game and know that a lot of people do. It's just kinda sad to see little kids get into a big fight like that

Agreed. What really bothered me is the kids fighting with sticks still in their hands

I agree. Hockey sticks as light sabers is never a good idea.
