A Closer Look at the Kimball Inserts from 2011 Topps

In my humble, or not so humble opinion, the 50-card Kimball insert set is one of the most visually appealing product components I have seen in a long time. I truly believe the brand, if done correctly, could easily replace the now tired Allen & Ginter. Blasphemy to many of you I know but it sure would make for a nice change of pace.

The set pays tribute to the original N184 W.S. Kimball Champions of Games and Sports (1887). A multi-sport product which you can see here.

I really like the idea of Kimball Champions being a mini insert. I think they look great. I still wish these tobacco inserts and A&G were real world champions: meaning baseball and other sports given equal billing in the sets. I think that T206 would look nice as a mini insert only set too.

As long as the Kimball cards are flimsy and wafer thin, they'll never compare to A&G minis, or even Goodwin or Topps 206 minis.

I like the cards, but so many of them are badly off center.

Do these also have an ad back version?

Use the noggin Topps.

A short print with a thicker stock, and you have a more valuable chase card. You can get a completed set on Ebay for a dollar..
